Goudge's classic tale for children starring Maria Merryweather was awarded the Carnegie Medal for 1946. It is J.K. Rowling's favourite children's book. The basis for the 2008 movie directed by Gabor Csupo and starring Ioan Gruffudd, Dakota Blue Richards and Tim Curry. A nice copy of an uncommon book illustrated by C. Walter Hodges, with map endpapers and full page monochrome illustrations and 3 col plates. Crease marks on front and back bds, the latter with a pink/red stain; spine slightly faded; fair, slightly grubby d/w with worn edges and darkened spine. Occasional foxing to page ends; adhesion marks from removal of 1x0.5 inch label, top ffep; inscription in pen on ffep 'With love to/ Gay/ from/ Linda/ Xmas. 1946'; and slightl lean to spine and text block.
