A VG early reprint of this classic children's picture book which includes an affectionate, chatty six-page letter from L Leslie Brooke to 'My dear Wist', dated 'Dec.29.1927'. The letter discusses Wist’s career as an illuminator of MS, LLB’s declining grasp of Latin but his wish to read the Georgics, the South Wales mining community where LLB’s son is teaching, and a recent joint art exhibition in Oxford in which his entry ‘was hung with Campbell Taylor on one side + Margetson next but one on the other – among old friends!’ A lovely, uncommon letter in Fine condition which provides enormous insight into this important author/illustrator's life.
