A VG 1st edition German copy of Alice's Abenteuer Im Wunderland with illustrations by John Tenniel. Supervised by Lewis Carroll himself, this is the first foreign language translation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland after its original 1865 publication. While many people considered the humour, verses, songs, and puns of the work untranslatable, the problem was solved by translator Antonie Zimmermann who substituted common German phrases for the English originals. [Williams, Madan and Green 73]. Set using the prevalent German Gothic typeface, there's something altogether enchanting about this setting with Tenniel's classic illustrations.
